Exhibition / Asemica

During the pandemic, I struggled with finding my creativity and I started an Instagram account where I began posting my asemic creations.

The word asemic means "having no specific semantic content" and I use this as an abstract form of typographic art which fuses shapes and text into a unity open to subjective interpretations.

As a typography lover, I really like finding new typefaces or details in letters. So, I began picking apart the letters from my favourite typefaces and twisting and turning them into shapes until they completely lack meaning. Sometimes I use the pieces of a serif typeface together with a different letter in italics, and sometimes I draw my own characters and modify them further so that they’re not even parts of letters anymore.

A few months after I started @asemic_art, I was contacted by the curator Heather Lowe, who wanted to use three of my pieces in an upcoming exhibition – "Asemic Notations" at IDOLWILD gallery in Los Angeles, in March 2023. IDOLWILD gallery also used my artwork for the promotional material for the exhibition.
